13 Mar Notes On My New Sculpture
On completion of my latest sculpture “Surrender” I have had a conversation with my client via email. We have covered topics directly or indirectly connected to the sculpture, its conception, production and the thinking behind it. Here are some excerpts.
“…but that the act of Surrender in a spiritual sense, has beauty and elegance and perfection…”
“I believe we are always operating on two levels: the mundane and the spiritual.
And perhaps we can access the spiritual via the mundane by giving it up. I should let go of what I think I must have and let my subconscious get on with it (atheist). Or another way of putting it, let the ego fall away and see reality (Buddhist). Or again, surrender to the will of God (Christian). Or again, bob along the stream like a cork (Renoir …he was a loveable rogue and did pretty well as an artist!) It’s all the same mountain.”
“…the thing I like about abstract sculpture is that every one takes from it what they want. “
